The tartar that accumulates around the teeth will cause gum disease. A layer is formed around the teeth called tartar as a merger result of food residues in teeth and calcium in saliva. Tartars weaken the connection between the teeth and gums, causing the tooth to swing or even fall. The tartar can only be cleaned by a dentist or gum disease specialist (periodontolog). Toothpaste with anti-tartar properties cannot remove the formed tartar.
Swollen teeth, especially gum bleeding, itching and prickling in the gums, bad breath, shiny surface swelling (edema), red gums, etc. can be considered as symptoms of gum disease.
As a result of periodontitis, the jawbone surrounding the teeth melts, the gap between the teeth and the gums, a periodontal pocket forms and the teeth begin to wobble. In this case, gingival treatments, called curettage and root plaining is performed. If there are deep pockets, the gingiva is opened and the hard and soft tissue surfaces are treated with flap operations by reaching the bottom of the pocket.
